Making The Scheherazade Nightgown

My Evolution

2006 : It all started way back in 2006, when I started helping my mother with her sewing projects, she makes and sells traditional dresses for the women in the family and her circle of friends. 2006 was the year I got my first Sewing Machine, and I used it to make tote bags. This was also the year I visited La Perla for the first time, I remember falling head over heels in love with the aesthetics and soft silky fabrics.

2010 : Was the year my brother and I collaborated, I used to make the cosplay costumes for his shows and he made the props. (9 years later, and we’re still collaborating)( I’m going to make him a Tech Priest (Warhammer) costume for his next year’s show). Back in my Early Teens in 2010, I remember being super critical of girls lingerie and how horrendous they looked when compared to the mature women’s lingerie, I was constantly reminded of how young I was for the more fancy ones, so I began to sketch out the lingerie I hoped I owned.

2019 : The year I finally started making my lingerie

The Brand

Alamira :

AlAmira (also spelled ElEmira or AlAmeera)(Arabic: أميرة) is an Arabic female given name, meaning “princess”, or “female ruler”.

What Sets Her Apart?

A.Cultural Inspiration

Alamira is a Luxury lingerie brand inspired by Middle Eastern Art, Literature and Music

B.Why

Because the Middle East is highly misrepresented in ways I cannot even begin to describe. I no longer want the West to represent us, because for so many years they failed to understand, sympathize and show their people who we really are from our cultures, food, art, music, movies, poetry and literature. Instead they Dehumanized a whole region, in the media especially, with the News Channels and Hollywood generalizing and making the whole area look bad, like we are the bearers of terror or barbaric in some way. They flopped at showing just how generous, creative and kind Middle Eastern people actually are or their struggle to live freely. Just like many Middle Eastern Artists, I decided that I want to be one of the voices of my community too and the only way we’ll ever be represented the way we want to, is to do it ourselves.
